Community Food Drives

NordBridge Aid

There is something profoundly hopeful about a community coming together to feed its own. Our food drives are more than collections of canned goods and sacks of rice — they are acts of solidarity that remind us we are stronger together than apart.

The Power of Collective Action

Food insecurity affects thousands of families across The Gambia, particularly during the lean season between harvests when stored crops run low and prices spike. During these critical months, many families survive on a single meal a day, and children are the first to suffer the consequences of inadequate nutrition.

NordBridge Aid's community food drives mobilise volunteers, local businesses, and donors to collect and distribute essential food items to the families who need them most. Each drive is organised in partnership with community leaders who understand the unique needs of their neighbours.

How Our Food Drives Work

Every food drive begins with careful planning. Our team identifies the communities with the greatest need, coordinates with local leaders, and sets up collection points in accessible locations. Volunteers sort and package donations, ensuring that each family receives a balanced mix of staple foods — rice, oil, flour, sugar, and protein sources.

Distribution days are community events in themselves. Families gather not only to receive food but to connect with health workers, educators, and social services. We use these moments to provide nutrition education, health screenings, and information about our other programmes.

Impact by the Numbers

In 2025 alone, our food drives have reached over 1,200 families across 15 communities. More than 8,000 kilograms of food have been collected and distributed, thanks to the generosity of 200+ volunteers and dozens of local businesses. But the numbers only tell part of the story.

Behind every package of food is a family that can now focus on other critical needs — sending children to school, seeking medical care, or investing in a small business. Food security is the foundation upon which communities build their futures.

Get Involved

Whether you can donate food, volunteer your time, or contribute financially, there is a place for you in our food drive movement. Every bag of rice, every hour of volunteer work, and every donation of 100 SEK brings us closer to a community where no one goes hungry.

Our next food drive is scheduled for the end of October. Contact us to learn how you can participate, or make a donation today to help us purchase supplies for families in need.
