A Share Your Food Blessing With Children

NordBridge Aid

In many communities across The Gambia, children go to school on empty stomachs. For these young learners, hunger is not just a discomfort — it's a barrier to education, growth, and opportunity. At NordBridge Aid, we believe that no child should have to choose between learning and eating.

The Reality on the Ground

In rural areas of The Gambia, families often struggle to provide three meals a day. Children walk kilometers to reach school, arriving tired and hungry. Without proper nutrition, their ability to concentrate, participate, and retain what they learn is severely compromised. Teachers report that many students become lethargic by midday, unable to engage with their lessons.

Our Food Sharing Initiative

Our "Share Your Food Blessing" programme was born from a simple yet powerful idea: when communities come together to share what they have, every child benefits. Working closely with local farmers, community leaders, and school administrators, we've established a sustainable food programme that provides nutritious daily meals to over 300 children across five schools.

The programme sources ingredients locally wherever possible, supporting Gambian farmers while ensuring fresh, culturally appropriate meals. Volunteers from the community prepare and serve food, creating a sense of shared ownership and pride in the initiative.

Measuring Impact

Since launching the programme, we've seen remarkable results. School attendance has increased by 25%, with parents reporting that their children are more eager to attend. Teachers have noted improved concentration and academic performance across the board. Perhaps most importantly, the programme has become a source of community unity, with families volunteering time, produce, and skills to keep it running.

How You Can Help

A small donation of 100 SEK can feed a child for an entire month. 500 SEK can provide school meals for an entire classroom for a week. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us closer to a future where no child goes hungry at school.

Join us in sharing the blessing of food with children who need it most. Together, we can nourish bodies, minds, and futures.
